Short links and QR codes
Printed material needs QR codes. There are two kinds: the static code, which contains the full tracking address, and the dynamic code, which points to a short link. Static codes can be used. Short links Coming soon and dynamic codes Coming soon cannot be used yet because the short domain has not been chosen. The same roles create QR codes as create links.
Create a static QR code
- Open the link. It must no longer be a draft, so Active or Ended. If it is still a draft, choose Activate link first.
- Go to the section QR codes and choose Create QR code.
- Under Kind, choose Static (contains the tracking link).
- If needed, set Foreground color, Background color, Quiet zone in modules and Error correction (L, M, Q or H).
- Confirm with Create QR code.
- Download the code as SVG, PNG, PDF or EPS. The page states the minimum width: "Print the code at least … mm wide."
What static means
The code contains the address itself. It works without a redirect service. The target cannot be changed after printing, and scans are not counted. If the landing page changes, you need a new code. Static codes are also available for adopted and ended links, but not for drafts.
What short links add
Short links Coming soon and dynamic codes Coming soon cannot be used yet. A short link is a short address that forwards to the tracking link. A dynamic code points to it. The target stays changeable after printing, and the platform counts clicks and scans anonymously. The link builder already has the switch Create a short link for this. It has no effect yet.
Example
For the autumn poster of Lindenholz Küchen, Nordlicht Media creates a link of its own, placement "Poster station", source plakat, medium print. Then a static code is created with error correction M and downloaded as PDF for the printer.
Create a separate link for every medium, for example one for the poster and one for the flyer. Only then do the results show which medium worked.
A very long link does not fit into a code with the highest error correction. Choose a lower level then. Foreground and background need enough contrast: a dark foreground and a light background. Links with ad platform placeholders in curly braces get no static code.
